The Best Day Ever

At 6:30 on a Saturday morning, long before the doors opened, families were already gathering outside The Village Christian Church’s Minooka Campus.
For one little girl, the wait didn’t seem to matter.
As she stood in line with her mom, eagerly anticipating what was ahead, she looked up and said, “This is going to be the best day ever.”
Four hours later, when the doors opened at 10:00 a.m., her excitement only grew. She carefully browsed through tables of clothes, her eyes lighting up as she found dress after dress that she loved. With every new find came another giant smile. It wasn’t just about clothing—it was about joy, dignity, and the simple delight of getting to choose something that made her feel special.
Her story is just one of hundreds from this year’s Big Give For Kids, but it perfectly captures why this ministry exists.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of Big Give For Kids, a ministry that has become a tradition of hope for families throughout the Minooka community and beyond. Hosted by The Village Christian Church at both the Minooka and Seneca campuses of The Village Christian Church, the event provides families with gently used clothing along with brand-new shoes, socks, underwear, and laundry detergent—all completely free.
For many families, these items ease a financial burden before the school year begins. For others, they represent something even deeper: the reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved by a community that cares.
Throughout the day, volunteers greeted guests with smiles, helped children find the perfect outfit, handed out new shoes, socks and underwear and organized tables. What could have felt like simply receiving assistance instead became a shopping experience filled with kindness, encouragement, and genuine connection.
The heart behind Big Give For Kids has never been just about meeting physical needs. It’s about reflecting the love of Jesus in practical ways.
Galatians 5:13 reminds us, “Serve one another humbly in love.” That’s exactly what hundreds of volunteers have done over the past ten years. Every donated shirt, every pair of shoes, every load of laundry detergent, and every hour of service tells a family, “You matter.”
Looking around the event, you could see countless moments like the little girl’s. Parents finding relief. Children proudly showing off their bags full of clothes. Volunteers sharing conversations and prayers. Strangers becoming neighbors.
These are the moments that don’t always make the headlines, but they are the moments that change hearts.
As we celebrate ten years of Big Give For Kids, we’re grateful for every person who donated, served, prayed, and gave to make this ministry possible. Because of your generosity, families didn’t just leave with clothes—they left with hope.
And somewhere, one little girl went home believing that it really was the best day ever.
May we never lose sight of the power of simple acts of love. When God’s people serve with open hands and open hearts, lives are touched in ways we’ll never fully know this side of heaven.
